summary The morphology, flowering behaviour and esterase genotype was examined for six F 2 progenies of hybrids between the two main variants of Poa annua L. (namely, annual‐erect and perennial‐prostrate). The association of flowering time with leaf and tiller morphology and Est 1 allozyme genotype, previously described for the two variants in populations from Burgundy, was fully broken in the F 2 generation, indicating that no linkage blocks were involved. Whether selection maintains the association of isozyme genotype and growth form is discussed.
