S ummary Artificial seeds of alfalfa ( Medicago sativa L.), consisting of somatic embryos encased in a nutritive coating, were inoculated with Glomus. In vitro the fungus, regenerated from surface sterilized root fragments, formed typical vesicular‐arbuscular mycorrhizas.
