S ummary The capacity of cobalt‐deficient nodules of Lupinus angustifolius L. cv. Uniharvest to respond to delayed addition of cobalt was examined in a glasshouse. Plant and nodule mass, bacteroid concentration and acetylene reduction activity were measured at each of three harvests. A favourable response to cobalt addition was evident in all parameters measured. However, the degree of this response declined with increasing age of the nodule tissue. The contribution of this recovery in nodule cobalt to the overall recovery of cobalt‐deficient L. angustifolius is discussed.
