S ummary Gibberellin‐like substances were extracted from light‐treated etioplasts to test the hypothesis that phytochrome controls their efflux. Results obtained using sucrose density centrifugation showed that phytochrome mediates a change in the extractability of gibberellins and does not mediate changes in the permeability of the etioplast envelope membrane with respect to gibberellins, as previously proposed.
