SUMMARY Oogenesis in the moss Physcomitrium cyathicarpum is characterized by a copious secretion of mucilage into the venter of the archegonium due to the extrusion of numerous vesicles from the egg. Maturation of the egg is not attended by any special event in the nucleus. The cell organelles become redistributed into zones as the egg matures before fertilization.
