S ummary The genetic control of a non‐radiate mutant of Senecio squalidus has been found to be identical with the genetic control of the non‐radiate character in S. vulgaris . The biological effects of the same gene in the two species are discussed. The morphology of the radiate florets in the heterozygotes of 5. squalidus has been investigated, and some implications for the evolution of protogyny are discussed.
