SUMMARY The effects of nine species of Piptocephalis de Bary on the growth of four host fungi were studied. Depending on temperature and the mycoparasite‐host combination, host growth was either unaffected, inhibited or stimulated, In addition, mycoparasite‐induced abnormal morphology in the host often resulted. Hypotheses are presented to explain these phenomena and to act as a basis for investigations into the physiology of mycoparasitism.
