SUMMARY A field porometer is described for measuring the permeability of amphistomatous leaves. The apparatus is a light (2.8 kg) portable version of Gregory and Pearse's porometer, which enables the operator to read the permeability immediately after clamping the leaf, thus obviating changes of stomatal aperture during measurements. The apparatus has two sensitivity ranges; details on its construction and calibration are presented.
