S ummary Tree pollen was found in the air at Lerwick, Shetland in May and June 1970 and April and May 1971. The predominant species were birch and pine, and peak concentrations (daily mean) of 20 and 30 grains m‐ 3 respectively, were recorded. Trajectories on surface meteorological charts give good agreement of the catch with likely source areas in Scandinavia and Britain. Possible applications and extensions of the work are mentioned briefly.
