S ummary The study of teratological flowers of Coriaria ruscifolia L. (Coriariaceae) gives evidence which supports the ‘leaflet theory’ (foliolar theory) of the ovule. The latter appears to be homologous with a leaflet of the carpellary blade, as put forward by certain previous authors and more recently confirmed by the present writers. The fairly complete series of terata here studied support the somewhat theoretical final view of Čelakovský, that the nucellus is fundamentally terminal on the ovular leaflet. The ovule considered has only one integument; its significance may be easily determined. The appearance of an extra nucellus upon an ovular leaflet already provided with the usual nucellus is also described and interpreted.
