S ummary Plants of cv. Majestic were grown in solution culture in tanks so designed that the development of the normally subterranean stolons could be followed individually by daily observation and measurement. An analysis is made of the pattern of stolon emergence, elongation, branching and tuber initiation. The effects on stolon development of reduced mineral nutrient supply, decapitation of the main shoot apex and exclusion of light from the developing shoot were also examined.
