S ummary Electron microscopic observation of surface replicas of the asexual spores of four species of Piptocephalis , reveals that three dry‐spored forms, P. unispora, P. henjaniinii and P. virginiana bear patterns of warts and ridges whilst those of the slime‐spored form P. freseniana , are relatively smooth. The transverse walls of spores of P. virginiana and P. freseniana are rough. Spore scars on the head cell of P. unispora apparently possess a central area which may represent a plug.
