S ummary The behaviour of Bombus agrurum, B. lucorum, B. pratensis, B. terrestris and B. lapidarius in exploiting the flowers of Digitalis purpurea, D. amandiana, D. mertouensis, D. ambigua and D. lanata is described, and the reasons for their ‘preferential foraging’ explained, in part, as a function of the physical difficulties of the workers in entering the flowers.
