S ummary The docken‐ (entire‐) leaf sport in the potato variety Majestic is a periclinal chimera in which L 2 and L 3 have a mutation for entire leaf but in which L 1 has the unchanged genotype for normal pinnate leaves. A shoot was found after X‐ray treatment which had pinnate, entire and sectorial leaves. The arrangement of leaves on this shoot would fit a hypothesis postulating only two initial cells for L 2 . The L 2 of leaf primordia may trace back to only two cells at a time when the L 2 has about sixteen or thirty‐two cells as seen in transverse section.
