S ummaryOchromonas ostreaeformis nov. sp. is described from a pool in the English Lake District. The motile cells have been recorded each spring for 4 years, although the formation of cysts was first observed in 1965. Possible factors influencing periodicity are discussed, especially variation in the phosphate phosphorus content of the water, which tended to show an inverse relationship with the number of cells.
