Galago zanzibaricus : birth seasonally, litter size and perinatal behaviour of females

Data are presented on the seasonality of births and litter size of a small, nocturnal prosimian, Galago zanzibaricus , found in the coastal forests of Kenya. A peak of births occurred in February/March and another in late August/October. Individual females were able to breed twice a year. They commonly gave birth to singletons, though twins could be produced. A description of the changes in sleeping patterns which occurred when infants were born is also given. For approximately three weeks around the time they gave birth, females mostly slept apart from all other adult galagos. Normally, each slept with an adult male, and sometimes another female, with whom they shared a home range.
