The sexual interactions of adult male and female Chacma baboons ( Papio ursinus ) were studied in order to gather quantitative data on the relationship between menstrual cycles and sexual behaviour. Rhythmic fluctuations in the interactions of the pairs studied were evident with mating being limited to the follicular phase of the female's cycle. Discussion centred on changes in female attractiveness, proceptivity and receptivity.
