The growth and development of the larvae of the ant Lasius flavus (F.) have been traced from the autumn to the following summer. The changes in fresh weight, dry weight, protein content and food reserves in the form of fats and carbohydrates are given. The course of development of the larvae is discussed in relation to the production of queens, workers and males.
