The shore distribution, growth and reproduction of the siliceous monoaxonid sponge Hymeniacidon perleve has been studied over a two year period in a population of the sponge in Langstone Harbour, Hampshire. The zonla distribution of the sponge is described, together with details of the seasonal variation in growth and changes in population size, and experimental determinations of the minimum growth temperature. The results of investigations of larval settlement are given and the relative importance of sexual and asexual reproduction in maintaining the population are considered.
