The kidneys of eight species of the Felidae, including Panthera pardus (leopard), P. leo (lion), P. tigris (tiger), P. onca (jaguar), Felis catus (domestic cat), F. viverrina (fishing cat), F. serval (serval) and Acinonyx jubatus (cheetah), were examined by microdissection and the nephrons were stained for fat with Nile blue. The distribution of fat in the nephrons is described and measurements of the proximal convoluted tubules are given. The significance of the presence of fat in the nephrons is discussed.
