The taxonomic position of the notodelphyoid copepod Mycophilus roseus Hesse is discussed and an account is given of its occurrence and general biology in Strangford Lough, Co. Down, with notes on the developmental stages. It has been demonstrated that a difference in external form distinguishes adult females inhabiting Botrylloides leachi (Savigny) from those found in Botryllus schlosseri (Pallas). While not discounting the possibility that this divergence is of a specific or subspecific nature, it is suggested that M. roseus exists in two host‐specific “biological forms”. The occurrence is noted in Strangford Lough of nine other notodelphyoid species, five of which are new to the British fauna.
