SUMMARY By employing groups of subjects classified by the MFF test and groups of subjects concordantly judged by two independent sources to exhibit symptoms of hyperactivity, an evaluation was made between perceived hyperactivity and the dimension impulsivity‐reflectivity. No significant relationship was found. Direct observational variables scored by observers blind to the group identity of subjects gave substantial support to the group structure derived from behavioural ratings but had only a moderate relationship with specific perceived symptoms. The necessity for developing a valid and reliable instrumentation in hyperactivity research is indicated.
