The Editors welcome original contributions to human population studies, including those that address the causes and consequences of population change. Authors agree not to submit their manuscript to any other journal pending the decision of the Editorial Committee, or at least for a period of four months. Manuscripts should not exceed the equivalent of 24 pages in Population format, including tables, figures, abstract and references (i.e. 76,000 characters including blank spaces). Articles must be accompanied by an abstract of 160-200 words. Submitted papers are reviewed by the Editorial Board in a meeting held every two months, on the basis of a report prepared by one of its members and of written comments from at least one external reviewer. The author is then informed of the Committee's decision; in case of rejection or request for modifications, the reasons for the decision are explained to the author in the light of the reports and of discussions during the meeting. The " Comments " section features reactions to articles published in the journal and the author's response (whenever possible, these will appear in the same issue). The Editors decide whether to publish all or part of these submissions. Comments are limited to 3 pages of Population (or 10,000 characters), with the exception of methodological developments duly justified and approved by the Committee. The Editors reserve the right to modify the form of the submissions. Any change of content, however, will be discussed with the author. All contributors will have the opportunity to review the proofs. » Text, tables and figures The manuscript, including the tables and figures in the body of the text, should be submitted with the abstract to the Population Editors as hard copy and as electronic copy by e-mail (population@ined.fr), preferably in MS-Word format. Figures and maps should also be sent in a separate file, accompanied, where applicable, by the datasets that were used to produce them (notably for Excel graphs). Authors should ensure that the title and legend are clearly indicated on each figure. » Equations They should be numbered in the …
