Summary. 1. It is shown that, using the sulphonphthalein indicators recommended by Clark and Lubs, it is possible to detect differences in p H of no more than 0·02. 2. A curve is deduced by means of which it is possible to determine the salt error of Cresol Red for any difference of concentration between the buffer mixture and the solution of unknown p H. 3. A simple method of determining the salt error of any other indicator by comparison with Cresol Red is outlined.
