Summary Two closely linked structural loci, D and ‘ CcEe ’, are proposed as the basis of the Rh blood groups. Mutation and unequal crossing‐over between the two loci at meiosis are considered as possible explanations for some rare Rh complexes. The theory predicts that complexes arising from unequal crossing‐over would be expected to have aberrant Rh polypeptides.
