SUMMARY The effects of six different thiol reagents on the electrophoretic behaviour of the isozymes of the human red cell PHI 5‐1 variant have been investigated. The results support the previous suggestion that the PHP allele codes for a polypeptide in which a reactive cysteine residue has been substituted for a particular neutral amino acid residue.
