Summary An algebraic statement is derived expressing the frequency of ABO heterospecific pregnancy in a population for which the gene frequencies are known. Results derived by substitution are compared with published observations. Consistent differences are found, but it is suggested that they may largely result from assortative mating rather than immunological risks to heterospecific foetuses.
