A new Open University course, “Patterns for Living: Working Together”, was launched in 1989. It is the first University course for people with learning difficulties. A series of “Familiarisation Days” were held throughout the UK in order to promote use of the course. This article describes how the Familiarisation Days contributed to a “participative approach to learning”.
