This study examines the use of role play as a teaching tool for use with students aged 16–19 years, with multiple handicaps and non‐verbal means of communication. Skills to be taught were the communication and social skills needed in a café, pub, and supermarket. The study took approximately eight months. Assessment took place in the community situations both before and after the intervention of role‐play.
