Recently, rehabilitation of mildly and moderately handicapped people seems to have been at the forefront of concern. According to the DHSS in Care in the Community (1981), the increase in community facilities is to cater for the “less heavily dependent”. The implication is that, for the forseeable future, existing hospitals will be accommodating a higher proportion of severely mentally handicapped residents. It seems timely, therefore, to consider their future needs. Hence, the aim of this paper is to present a system for training severely mentally handicapped adults in a hospital setting.
