Objective and background The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between rotavirus infection and a transient maculo‐papular eruption in seven children with acute febrile gastroenteritis. Methods Bacteria and viruses were looked for in stool specimens. Results Rotavirus was detected in all patients by enzyme immunoassay. Conclusion The short time lapse between the gastroenteritis and the rash, the identical clinical course and the consistent isolation of rotavirus in all cases suggest an etiological association between this viral infection and exanthem.
