Disseminated coccidioidomycosis in an American soldier in Europe

A 25‐year‐old black man had a 7‐month history of draining chest wall abscesses. Potassium hydroxide examination of abscess drainage revealed numerous spherules with doubly refractile walls. Although uncommon, a diagnosis of nonendemic coccidioidomycosis should be considered in cases of atypical cutaneous infections in highly mobile persons.
