Thermal behaviour on skin surface during application of cosmetics is one of important factors of tactile feelings. A new evaluation system to measure the thermal behaviour on surfaces during application was developed, and the influences of components of cosmetics on thermal behaviours were investigated. The relationship between this thermal behaviour and one tactile feeling, freshness, was investigated as well. As a result, it was shown that the thermal behaviour during application depended on the amount of water, ethanol, moisturizer, fatty alcohol, the kind of polymers and their compositions. It was also found that a parameter consisting of maximum decrement in temperature and initial speed of decreasing temperature showed a good correlation with the tactile feeling of freshness. Keywords: freshness, fresh sensation, sensory evaluation, tactile feeling, evaluation system, tactile evaluation, temperature, thermal behaviour, formulation, application
