Between March and June of 1983, for 118 days, Israel experienced one of the most prolonged doctors' strikes ever recorded. This article provides a conceptual framework for analysing the strike. It presents an outline of the role of different health agencies in Israel prior to and during the crisis and considers the status dilemma of modern doctors.
