Section 1 of the Employment Act 1982 requires the directors of certain companies to make annual statements on “employee involvement”[1]. This article begins with a description of the Section and proceeds to a discussion of its origins; a report then follows of an investigation into the initial effects of this new law in a small number of companies that were complying with it for the first time; and there are some concluding observations on the nature and impact of this legislation.
