This paper investigates the dynamics of gender segregation by analyzing data on the increase in men's share of assembly jobs in the Ciudad Juérez maquila industry. Gender recomposition of maquila production was a result of changes in the Mexican economy; which produced a marked increase in the demand for labor and an increase in the “relative attractiveness” (but not necessarily the absolute attractiveness) of maquiladora jobs to men.
