Summary Although the Negro worker has been vulnerable to forces which have made him the “last hired, first fired” in the American labor market, he has at times been highly regarded and sought out by employers. A considerable ebb and flow of job opportunities for Negroes has been the result. Recognition of his recently acquired political power may provide the means for stabilizing his position.
