This paper presents findings from the ethnic group data collection exercise carried out by UCCA. The collection of data on ethnic origin is very recent in the admissions systems for higher education and this paper represents the first detailed study of this data for UCCA. The main finding is that acceptance into universities varies according to ethnic origin. Key patterns of application are discussed which explain only some of the discrepancies in acceptance rates. The findings indicate the importance of effective monitoring of admissions and the need to enquire into acceptance criteria that are applied in institutions.
