James Nixon and Andrew Sentance argue that the recent improvement in the UK current account indicates a more favourable medium term balance of payments outlook. But despite stronger oil revenues and investment income, a surplus will not quite be achieved unless the world economy grows more strongly than our forecasts suggest.
