Controls on builcing and development in Britain impose a little‐suspected burden on businesses and massively distort the market for land. Linda Whetstone, Chairman of the Aflas Economic Research Foundation (UK), and Mike Fisher, Chairman of Whale Tankers, demonstrafe the juge cost of a form of state intervention that has largely escaped the attention of economists. They call for a re‐structuring of bureaucratic incentives to remove deloay and promote economic growth.
