The age‐old human desire to impose order on the diversity af human activity lies at the root of intellectual antipathy towards capitalism. Dr Stephen Davies (right), of Manchester Polytechnic, argues that, until, the training of intellectuals allows them to appreciate the ‘chaos’ of the market, their understanding of the world and of people will remain imperfect.
