Neil MacFarlane, the Sports Minister, is neglecting his job. ‘Amateur’ sports are accepting commercial sponsorship. Restrictive rules waste resources and exploit the ‘amateur’ sportsman. Only abolition of the distinction between professional and amateur can create efficient use of sporting skills.
