Summary. Elements of iconography on some black‐figure vases of the Tyrrhenian Group from the middle of the sixth century BC pose problems if all of the vases of the Group are to be seen as purely Attic productions. In addition, non‐Attic letter‐forms appear in nonsense inscriptions on some of the vases. Although some of the painters were certainly trained in Athens, it is possible that the Tyrrhenian workshop was established elsewhere. Similarities between some Tyrrhenian and some Eretrian imagery and letter‐forms may point in the general direction we should look for the home of that workshop.
