This study concerns the Allegory of Divine Misericordia, a fresco painted in 1342 for the entrance hall of the Compagnia di Santa Maria della Misericordia in Florence. It examines how the fresco functioned in part as at catechetical tool for members of the confraternity and their visitors. Through an analysis of the numerous inscriptions and the corresponding imagery that make up the fresco, this study demonstrates how the painting provided essential theological material for the confraternity members to read, memorize, and recite regularly.
