The Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE) held its Ninth Annual Conference on Geographic Information Science, in Visegrad, Hungary from 20-22 April 2006. This special issue of Transactions in GIS highlights a selection of nine papers presented at this conference and modified for the journal. Over this past decade AGILE conferences have provided a synoptic view of the main areas of activity in Geographic Information Science on the continent.
