Many conflicts which spring from tourism potentials and threats, impact on economic sectors, cultural processes and the environment. Countries may take different positions in these respects, but conflict resolution from an international perspective seems possible through the management of conflicts between aspects of tourism rather than between the countries themselves. Along with causes and effects hi host countries and regions, attention should also be paid to the causes in source countries and effects during travel. Partial models are needed to combine statistics and concepts into operational explanations and strategies. In this article, time series of holiday indicators for the Dutch population are analyzed, through the use of such partial models which stress the dynamics of ‘acceptance’ and allow for differentiation of social categories.
