. We offer here some remarks on the concept of phases, as formulated in recent developments on minimalist theorizing. Our main objective is to express our feeling that, in their present definitions, phases are poorly understood. We argue that the major properties of phases can be viewed as reincarnations of explanations in terms of islands (or bounding nodes and successive cyclicity, respectively). The present remarks are intended as productive stimulation to home in on a better conceptualization of the notion “phase” and what issues might arise under current theoretical considerations.
