Robert Vardill has undertaken a small‐scale research project into the number of boys and girls identified for referral to the educational psychology service in a northern city. The preponderance of boys referred for help has long‐been evident and accepted. However, Vardill takes this matter a little further, asking such basic questions as ‘Does this mean that we are giving less recognition to girls’ needs? He suggests schools. local education authorities and support systems, should monitor this more carefully, and further reseach is indicated.
