Julie Allan examines co‐operative teaching. Her study suggests that while learning support staff tend to provide valuable help to a few pupils in class there is still little involvement in discussions about curriculum or teaching approaches. In spite of this, the help provided was highly regarded by mainstream staff. It would appear co‐operative teaching has taken major steps forward in recent years even if negotiations of a more sophisticated nature have yet to emerge.
