Ron Best reports on the findings of a case study of support for pupils in a compre‐hensive school. He focuses on teachers' perspectives of children's needs and changes in their own caring roles. He notes the very wide range of difficult cases that teachers are now expected to respond to and the fears that existing support will be diminished. This also highlights the need for us to know more about how pastoral, behavioural and academic support may be more effectively integrated.
